Hello Day One!

proud_participant Well, I did it. I signed up for the 2015 Lurong Living Summertime Challenge. I was in heavy debate with myself but ugh, why the hell not. This will be my third challenge with Lurong Living so may as well keep going.. right?? However, I am going to be doing my Kayla Itsines‘ workouts with the challenge though I could probably do the evaluation WOD if I wanted to. We shall see.. again.. debating with myself! It is a real struggle sometimes in my head, guys. A real struggle!

Week one of her workouts were pretty good. I realized a few things and that was I hate jumping and I hate pushups which means I really hate burpees. I mostly hate jumping because if I have a headache, I feel like my head is going to explode and there really isn’t many alternatives to all the jumping her workouts consist of!

Today, for example.. I had to do jump lunges, burpees, skip rope, and jump squats. I have a killer migraine that I took medication for so.. yea. I think I will be revisiting the workout tomorrow since I feel like I half assed it today. Sorry, not sorry. I also stayed in bed far longer than I probably would have liked to but again.. migraine. I seriously woke up at 7:30am, groaned, rolled over, grabbed a pillow, shoved it between my head and the wall, took another pillow and covered my face with it, and went back to bed. I woke up at 1pm. If you are wondering, I have Mondays off. Mondays are my Sundays while the world is off at work.. I am not. However, while the world is enjoying their Saturdays.. I am not. The struggle of a Tuesday-Saturday work week!

Next weekend though, I have Friday-Tuesday off! Woo! I am pretty excited though I am a photographer at a wedding on Saturday. Okay, assistant photographer. Still.. going to be at a wedding so I do not work that day… technically. I won’t be able to workout though either so that will suck but what can you do. Hopefully my paleo diet will stay intact on that day! It will be hard but I can do it. You can’t see me, but I totally flexed at that moment!

Before I forget, I was on point with my diet today! I didn’t have a single naughty food today. Proud! Anyway, hope everyone else had a fantastically successful day today!

Bring It On, 2015!

If anybody remembers, back in April 2014, I signed up for the Weight Loss for Warriors challenge at Lurong Living. I wasn’t able to complete it due to my kidney surgery and I was so upset by that. When Lurong Living’s next challenge came out in the summer, I was unable to participate because I was not a member of a CrossFit gym. Once again, I was very upset. Well, by very upset I mean that I was disappointed that I was unable to complete it. Then, I got an email about the 2015 Lurong Living Resolution Challenge and… I was able to sign up!! They didn’t require you to be a member of a CrossFit gym (though you are ineligible for the prizes if you aren’t affiliated with one) which is okay with me. So, I signed up! Starting January 16th, 2015 I will be participating in this brand new challenge and I am going to kick some major Nena booty during it.

 

While I am in no way, shape or form, affiliated with Lurong Living.. I do like promoting healthy contests and this challenge is amazing. Seriously. They offer so much support, recipes, contests, workouts, etc. that it is so easy to keep on track. Plus, if you like a friendly competition.. this is the way to go. Why not start your 2015 off the right way with a healthy weight loss challenge? Stick to your new year’s resolution this time around and let them guide you! You can do it! I believe in you.

Day 2 of the Paleo Challenge

Okay, so I know that I did not post yesterday which would have been Day 1 but that is because I really didn’t eat very paleo yesterday. I know, I know! Such a fail to Day 1 but hey, it wasn’t ALL awful food but, still, it wasn’t Paleo. I had rice noodles in a mushroom soup (which was delicious) and a biscuit. Yea. I felt like it was a fail day so it really wasn’t worth telling you about since… well… all my prior days were fail days as well. Today is much better though, food wise. Everything else? Not better.

This is what I consumed today:

Breakfast: 2 slices of bacon, 1 scrambled egg, 1 apple

Lunch: Chicken & broccoli

Dinner: Large Salad (lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, slices of ham, bacon) with 3 fried eggs over top of it

As well as lots and lots of water! I have not worked out yet but that will happen once I write this post. I will probably hula hoop for 30 minutes and then do some sort of kettlebell routine (haven’t decided which yet!) as well as lunges, plank, push ups, etc. Exciting, I know! Whatever works though, right? And this works for me. Hope everybody else is having a fantastic Tuesday!

Hard to get back on track!

So last time I spoke to everybody, I was recovering from my kidney stone procedure and trying to get back on track after a month of not being able to do much of anything. Sadly, I am still struggling to get on track but that stops now, or at least this weekend. I know, why not NOW?! Because I have to get groceries and I have no Paleo foods really in my kitchen. Hold.. that is a lie. I have chicken breasts, lettuce and steamed broccoli in the freezer…

Anyway, the point to this post is that in Mayish/June, I was doing the Weight Loss For Warriors Challenge that LurongLiving had out. Unfortunately, the last two weeks of the challenge fell on my kidney stone procedure time and I was unable to successfully complete the challenge due to physical restrictions (aka I could not get out of bed outside of waddling slowly to the bathroom) and I was unable to workout (obviously). This really bummed me out because I LOVED the challenge and was so pumped to do it! It motivated me and kept me going! Well… they have a new challenge out and that is the Paleo Challenge. Sadly, I cannot join it because I am not a member of a CrossFit gym (money reasons as well as I’m not quite physically fit enough to do that stuff!)

So, I am going to do something that will take lots of mental strength on my part and that is… I am going to unofficially join that challenge. Yep. I won’t get prizes, I won’t be ranked, I won’t have a fancy profile under their website but that is okay! Why? Because it will give me a time frame and I still have access to the WLFW website so I can get recipes off of there, as well. Anyway, it starts September 15th and I think it is a 6 week challenge. It’s an 8 week challenge… It’s a shame that I can’t officially join it but again, CrossFit is expensive. Like… $110/month expensive. Hopefully next Spring they have the WLFW challenge and I can join that again but until then… unofficial challenge, here I come lol.

Tomorrow, It Begins

After a month of waiting for the LuRong Living Weight Loss for Warrior challenge to begin, it is finally here! I admit that this whole week, all I could think about is what I will not be able to eat for six weeks. Six weeks! It seems pretty daunting when you think about it, really. Six weeks is a really long time! 42 days to be exact. With this thought on my mind all week, I had been pinning random desserts all over my pinterest board. I have also been pinning paleo recipes/whole30 recipes but those aren’t as fun to look at.

However, I went grocery shopping already for it and am quite pleased with myself. I took a photo of my grocery haul, minus the organic applesauce and pork chops but you get the drift. I apologize for the quality of the pic, but I didn’t feel like pulling out  my DSLR just for a grocery haul.

I am not sure what I will make myself outside of salads but I think I am going to chop up one of those green peppers, or half of a green pepper, and add it to my egg muffins that I am going to be making here shortly for breakfast. Have I ever mentioned that I am not a breakfast person? If not, I am now. I am not a morning person and am never hungry when I wake up! Even when I don’t eat after 7pm, I am not hungry until about 11am the next day. There are times that I will eat a banana or orange before work but clearly I need more food in the morning during this challenge so yep, egg muffins it is! I will not be adding an almond flour crust to them like I did in the recipe posted somewhere in this blog.

I am not very creative when it comes to meal prepping and if I am being honest here, I can easily eat the same meal for a whole week and not get bored. Is that sad? Probably, but I prefer just having something I can pop into the microwave during the week and eat it. I don’t need anything fancy! I believe the reason I feel that way is because when I grew up, we didn’t eat anything fancy. My mom’s cooking usually consisted of a meat, a vegetable and either rice or potatoes. Sometimes, she would make dumplings and that was amazing. I am from Bohemian decent so bread dumplings are by far my all time favorite food! I wish they weren’t so no-no because god, I love them! It’s like the one thing I enjoy when I visit my parents haha.

EDITED TO ADD…

They just released the workout and I am good with everything BUT the running backwards for 31 yards. I am not very graceful/coordinated so running backwards may be dangerous for me. If I come back this week with a post saying that I am injured, you will know why.

Lurong Living: Weightloss for Warriors

Happy April, everybody! Spring is here and summer is creeping closer and closer, so I hope everybody is having great success with their weight loss goals. I know that sometimes when April arrives, I get this feeling of panic from the thought of having to wear more revealing clothes but not yet in the best of shape. However, this year I am going to be doing something new that I have never done before.

This challenge takes place from April 28th – June 8th and consists of 6 weeks of pretty strict eating. I have been striving to be 80% paleo but this challenge will require me to be 100%! It will be tough but I think I am finally up for it. I have 100% cut soda out of my diet, which was my one weakness, and have been strictly drinking water for 2 weeks now. Every now and then I drink tea but, still, tea is still okay. I think the hardest part will be the NO sugar. If you read my previous post, you would read that I have mad sugar cravings. I should check out the ingredients for my gluten free brownies and see if they are all safe for this challenge… that might save me! Actually, I could probably make some chocolate “pudding” with unsweetened cocoa powder (allowed), avocado (allowed), and a tablespoon of honey (allowed). Hmmm… guess I will have to get creative here! I like challenges. They keep me motivated.

I hope that others will join me on this journey! Remember, it starts April 28th and it only costs $35.00 to join. I will be updating this blog with my journey, so keep an eye out for that! Well, now it’s time for me to finish up season 3 of Game of Thrones! It’s almost Season 4 time! Pretty excited!
